Crystal Microdermabrasion

Crystal microdermabrasion has always been the traditional treatment of choice. This procedure involves using a special, hand-held device that blasts a high speed flow of aluminum oxide microcrystals onto the surface of the skin. The exfoliation process occurs from these microcrystals. At the same time another part of the device is vacuuming dead skin cells, dirt and used crystals. Two aspects to this method help significantly. The crystals' irregular shape makes them an effective abrader while its aluminum oxide component is the second hardest mineral after diamonds.

Diamond Microdermabrasion

Here a disposable or reusable diamond tipped wand is used as the abrading agent. The advantage for this method is it takes out the possibility of free flying crystals inadvertently hitting and damaging sensitive areas of the face. More exact precision can be applied from this tipped wand as it comes in different shapes and sizes. The negative is that both these procedures require that the patient attends a medical clinic or day spa for at least 6 to 12 sessions. Each visit can last up to an hour and the price tag will run into the hundreds of dollars. Thankfully there is a cheaper and more time effective skin microdermabrasion cream.

At Home Microdermabrasion

Skin resurfacing products have a new development in that now exists a microdermabrasion cream that can be used from home. Especially if made of all natural ingredients, this cream can produce long lasting results and is easy to use. What a microdermabrasion cream does is it leaves a 'polished' look to your face after it abrades the surface of your skin using tiny particles. It works by incrementally removing a scarred or discolored skin surface with repeated use. The microdermabrasion results are twofold. The surface skin cell turnover is enhanced and it causes the self replenishment of collagen and elastin to replace the older and drier layer of the skin.
